ZOROOFER®
Water-Soluble Iron (Fe)
Although iron is an essential nutrient element found in high total amounts in soils, chlorosis resulting from its deficiency is very common in plants. Absolute iron deficiency in the soil is rarely seen as the primary cause of iron chlorosis in plants. This type of Fe chlorosis is particularly encountered in sandy and peat soils.
Factors causing iron deficiency in plants are mostly those that inhibit the absorption of available iron from the soil through the roots, its transport within the plant, and its metabolism.

These factors include high soil pH, calcium carbonate, excessive concentrations of Ca++ and HCO3- ions in the soil solution, and the interaction of iron with other elements. Indeed, the roles of soluble Ca++, HCO3-, CO2, and P in the onset of iron chlorosis in plants have been known for a long time. Since iron cannot be translocated from older leaves to younger ones, green plants continuously absorb iron from the soil throughout their growth period. Iron is absorbed by plant roots largely as Fe+2, Fe-chelate, and in small amounts as Fe+3.
The availability of inorganic iron to plant roots depends on the roots' ability to lower the pH of the rhizosphere and reduce Fe+3 to Fe+2. Iron holds metabolic importance in the plant due to its numerous physiological effects. It is a component of the active groups of various enzymes. Its best-known function is its role in the prosthetic groups of heme enzymes.
It specifically acts as an electron carrier in energy metabolism related to the oxidation and respiration chain. By catalyzing the catalase reaction among these enzymes, it prevents the harmful metabolic effects of peroxide in plants.
